Welch Visits Craftsbury Outdoor Center, Hosts ‘Common Grounds with Senator Welch’ Listening Session in Orleans County

Feb 19, 2026

CRAFTSBURY, VT – On Wednesday, U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) hosted a ‘Common Grounds with Senator Welch’ listening session at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. He joined Vermonters in Craftsbury to discuss the cultural and economic importance of winter sports, outdoor recreation, tourism, and rural economic development in Vermont. The Senator’s visit comes as Vermont’s incredible Olympic athletes dominate at the Winter Olympics in Italy.

“We’re all pretty proud of our Vermont Olympians—many of them trained for the biathlon and ski events right here in Craftsbury,” said Senator Welch. “In the half-century since its founding in 1976, Craftsbury Outdoor Center has become the gold standard in supporting lifelong sport, including through innovative programs like the Green Mountain Racing Project. I’ll keep working to deliver federal funding that supports Vermont’s vital outdoor recreation economy to ensure Vermont athletes can achieve greatness for generations to come.”
