Welch Statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day

May 6, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today released the following statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day:

“On Yom HaShoah, we remember and grieve the 6 million Jews and other innocent victims who perished at the hands of the Nazis. We also honor the strength of the survivors and the incredible courage of those who fought against unspeakable evils. But prejudice and hate didn’t end with the downfall of Nazi Germany. Decades after the Holocaust, we are witnessing a dangerous rise in harmful rhetoric, antisemitism, and hate reminiscent of past atrocities, including Hamas’ abhorrent attack in Israel on October 7th.  During this time of remembrance, and always, we recommit to combatting all forms of hate against the Jewish people—wherever it exists.”
