Welch Statement on Government Funding

Mar 27, 2026

WASHINGTON, D.C.U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) released the following statement after the Senate voted unanimously to fund the TSA, Coast Guard, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and FEMA without funding for ICE and parts of Customs and Border Protection:

“Vermonters made their voice clear: no more ICE or Border Patrol funding unless reforms are made. This unanimous vote by the Senate to fund everything but ICE delivers on that promise.

“Since this shutdown began, we have urged our colleagues across the aisle to fund the TSA, Coast Guard, CISA, and FEMA. There is no reason these workers should have been without pay for so long.

“ICE and Border Protection have acted with impunity under President Trump. I won’t back down in the fight against President Trump and Stephen Miller’s mass deportation campaign.

“I urge my colleagues in the House of Representatives to pass this legislation without delay, help us reopen our airports, and pay government workers.”
