PUTNEY, VT – U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) this weekend delivered keynote remarks at Landmark College’s 2025 convocation and presidential inauguration ceremony. Senator Welch expressed support for Landmark College’s mission providing higher education for students with learning disabilities and celebrated the inauguration of new Landmark President, Dr. James Dlugos.
“What is such the miracle of Landmark College is the capacity of all of us…to see in you what’s there. Which is intelligence, it’s sensitivity, it’s determination, it’s gentleness—it’s there. And we’ve got a harshness oftentimes in our society where people who look a little bit different, act a little bit different, get dismissed. That’s wrong. You know it’s wrong, because you know who you are,” said Senator Welch.
“What is so, so profoundly important about education—and you taking advantage of this opportunity—is first: you can be the productive, confident, respected person that each and every one of us aspires to be. But number two, when you get that confidence that comes with education, and comes with effort, the gift that awaits you on the other side is the greatest gift that education can give. And that is a realization that you can take your personality, you can take your skills, you can take your aspirations, and serve others. Because there’s no greater joy in life than being able to make somebody’s day a little bit of a better day. To make the community that you live in a closer community. To help do your part to make our country the country that we all know it can and should be.”
