Welch Helped Deliver Funding for the Project Through Congressional Appropriations
BURLINGTON, VT – U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) today visited the Boys and Girls Club in Burlington to celebrate the completion of their newly renovated pool. The pool will help nearly 100 summer campers get daily swim lessons and is expected to last for 30 years. In 2023, Senator Welch secured $525,000 of federal funding through the Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) process to support the project.
“The completion of Boys and Girls Club’s new pool is a great example of what the Congressionally Directed Spending program does best—reinvest in our communities to better support our kids,” said Senator Welch. “The Boys and Girls Club has been essential in helping Vermont’s young people realize their full potential, and we’re incredibly grateful for their dedication that made this project possible. When we partner with tremendous community partners like the Boys and Girls Club, we can achieve real progress that makes Vermont and our world a better place for our children.”

Last year, Senator Welch secured over $42 million in federal investments to support 27 projects that will improve local infrastructure and accessibility, bolster economic revitalization, preserve community landmarks, and build more affordable housing in Vermont. Project recipients were nominated by Senator Welch through the CDS process.
