Welch Announces Events Across Vermont for First Full Week in Office

Jan 5, 2023

WASHINGTON – Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) today announced plans for his full first week in office as United States Senator.

Welch, who was sworn into the Senate on January 3rd, will return to Vermont to highlight the progress made in lowering prescription drug costs and tackling other issues that matter to Vermonters, and to discuss the work ahead on challenges facing Vermont communities—including the opioid crisis, affordability, and threats to our democracy.

“It’s a privilege to represent Vermonters in Washington,” said Welch. “But the best part of the job is getting to come home and talk with folks across our state about the problems they’re facing and how we can work together to solve them. I’m excited to start my time in the Senate by doing just that.”

Welch will welcome Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra to Rutland Pharmacy on Monday, January 9th, as seniors begin seeing prescription drug savings secured through Welch-championed initiatives in the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Welch and Becerra will then hold a roundtable on the opioid crisis in Vermont, where they will be joined by local health care leaders and advocates.

On Wednesday, January 11th, Welch will host a roundtable discussion with dairy farmers in St. Albans to discuss priorities for the upcoming Congress and the impact of climate change and high costs on Vermont farmers. Later in the day, Welch will tour a local organic dairy farm and visit with students at St. Albans City School.

On Friday, January 13th, Welch will host a Town Hall in White River Junction to hear directly from Vermonters about the challenges their communities are facing.

All events will be advised to press, with details to follow shortly. For information on the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, please click here.
