Sanders, Welch, Balint Host Telephone Town Hall

Nov 20, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Vermont Congressional Delegation, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), Sen. Peter Welch (D-Vt.), and Rep. Becca Balint (D-VT-At Large), last night held a statewide telephone town hall on the delegation’s continued fight to protect health care and lower costs for hardworking Vermont families.

The telephone town hall followed Congressional Republican’s government shutdown, which was brought on by the Trump Administration’s refusal to negotiate an extension of health care tax credits. The delegation heard directly from Vermonters about their concerns and answered questions about how they are working to lower costs for families, protect democracy, and fight back against President Trump’s reckless policies.

“The immediate urgency is health care. This is on top of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ (so called), which is going to kick 15 million people off of health care. It’s going to take a trillion dollars out of our health care system, and it’s going to be brutal on our community hospitals that are so essential to the well-being of Vermonters. And now, with the expiration of the premium tax credits, businesses, farmers, individuals are going to see their premiums skyrocket,” said Senator Welch. “It’s just unsustainable.”
