MEDIA ADVISORY: Welch to Travel to Wisconsin to Speak with Farmers, Rural Communities About Ag Economy, Trade War, and Rural Health Care

EAU CLAIRE and LA CROSSE, WIU.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.), a member of the Senate Finance Committee and Senate Agriculture Committee, will travel to western Wisconsin next week to discuss how Washington can better serve rural communities.  

On Friday, June 5thSenator Welch will host a health care roundtable in Eau Claire focused on how Wisconsinites and rural communities across America will be harmed by Republicans’ tax bill, which slashed Medicaid funding, hurt patients, and threatened rural hospitals. He will also discuss the need to extend the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) premium tax credits, which helped more than 278,000 working Wisconsinites and their families access health coverage—including more than 24,000 people in western and central Wisconsin. Senator Welch will be joined by patients, doctors and nurses, and community members. 

Later that afternoon in the La Crosse area, Senator Welch will meet with farmers to discuss the Farm Bill and his legislation to support small and family-sized farms. 

On Saturday, June 6thSenator Welch will attend the Monroe and Crawford County Dairy Breakfasts. That afternoon, Senator Welch will meet with business owners and community leaders to discuss President Trump’s illegal trade war, which has hurt the Driftless Region.

Senator Peter Welch (D-Vt.) is the Ranking Member of the Agriculture Subcommittee on Rural Development, Energy, and Credit, and serves on the Finance Subcommittee on Health Care.  

Senator Welch has championed legislation to end the trade war, support rural development, and strengthen farms. He is the cosponsor of several bipartisan bills and resolutions to block the Trump Administration’s tariffs on Canada, as well as the global tariffs. Senator Welch has led legislation to ensure farmers have the right to repair their farm equipment, improve crop insurance, and support beginning farmers and ranchers. He is also the sponsor of bipartisan bills to support rural hospitals and build out rural broadband. His bipartisan bill, the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, was signed into law earlier this year.
